Treatment and Control of Venereal diseases (STD's)

Infectious diseases, transmitted via sexual contact. Their current denomination is S.T.D. (Sexual transmitted Diseases):

• Gonorrhoea
• Syphilis
• Urethritis
• Vaginitis
• Venereal Warts
• Herpes Genital

Important note : Each STD requires a specific treatment. Contracting an STD during pregnancy can be dangerous for the foetus.

Patients suffering STD must refrain from sexual intercourse until the treatment is completed and symptoms disappear. If you think you might have been infected, consult your doctor even if no symptoms are felt. Always inform your partner since he/she might be infected.

Prostate Check-up in 72 hours.

The Centre for Urology, Andrology and Sexology offers its patients the opportunity to undergo an early prostate check-up. This check-up may be completed in only 72 hours. After completion, the Doctor will have all the necessary information to treat any pathology that may have been diagnosed.

Male genital system Pathologies

Tumours and cysts.

Monitoring of children's genital development:

Circumcision : Constriction of the orifice of the meatus, preventing it from folding backwards.
Hypospadias : Congenital anomaly in the male in which the urethra runs into the inferior part of the penis or the perineum.
Epispadias : Congenital anomaly occurring in males in which the urethra runs into the dorsal part of the penis.
Other anomalies, occurring during the child's penile development.

Penile Curvature:

Congenital malformation of the penis. The penis curves to one side when erect (the curve may be towards any angle: left or right-hand side, upwards or downwards).

Congenital Curvature : The child is born with this pathology and during his development the penis begins to curve at an angle. The most common type of curvature is the ventral curvature. When this curvature is higher than 45º it may prevent normal sexual activity to take place, as penetration may be very difficult if not impossible. Patients develop a high degree of worry and anxiety about this condition and eventually they do not even attempt sexual intercourse due to embarrassment.

Acquired Curvature / De la Peyronie Disease:This disease produces penile curvatures or visible changes in its anatomy, together with a loss of erection in many cases. The symptoms are typically pain while during erection, curvature, loss of erectile quality, penile shortening and occasionally small lumps may appear under the penis's skin. In some cases, penile blood pressure may diminish resulting in weak erections. In these conditions, intercourse is very difficult, sometimes impossible. This disease normally arises in males between the ages of 40 – 65, it is commonly related to diabetic patients or as consequence of urethral catheterisms, traumatisms or penile fractures.

Penile Lengthening and enhancement:

In medical terms only those penis, which are under 8cms, are considered pathological. The normal penile measurement is between 9cms and 18 cms. In order to maintain satisfactory sexual intercourse it is advisable that the penis is between the above mentioned measurements. In some cases, some patients who have normal penile measurements undergo surgery due to self esteem issues. Each case must be carefully evaluated.

Penile Prosthesis Implant:

The Centre for Urology, Andrology and Sexology has implanted the highest numbers of penile prosthesis in Spain and part of Europe.

Vasectomy:

It is a simple surgical intervention. By cutting the male's vasdeference, sperm is prevented from flowing through and therefore the fertility of the male is halted.

Vasovasostomy:

At our centre it is possible to reverse a vasectomy, this is done using microsurgery and results are approach 80% success rate.

Infertility in the Couple:

We talk about an infertile couple, and not about infertile individuals. The couple is referred to as the gestation unit. A couple is defined as "infertile" when after two years of normal sexual intercourse with reproductive intention, they are unable to obtain offspring.

Azoospermia:

Lack of or low sperm count in semen.

Oligoospermia:

Decrease in the number of sperms in semen.

Astenospermia:

Reduction of loss of mobility of sperms in semen.

Semen Bank:

Place where at –196ºC different types of semen are kept for artificial inseminations from donors.

Assisted Reproduction Techniques:

Artificial Intrauterine Insemination: It consists of the introduction of semen in the neck of the female's uterus, by means of medical instruments. It is a painless operation. The semen may be provided by the partner or supplied from the semen bank by an anonymous donor.
Invitro Fertilization: This technique consists of the fertilisation of the female ovule with the sperm in the laboratory. This fertilised ovule is called zygote, and it is implanted afterwards in the female's uterus so that it may continue its natural gestation process.
Intracitoplasmatic Sperm Injection (ICSI) this technique isolates the zygote and one sperm under microscopic vision and sophisticated instrumental is introduced inside the zygote to fertilise it. If this is successful, the embryo is then transferred.

Sexual Male Dysfunctions: These are the sexual male problems, which appear when organic and/or psychological factors affect male's sexual life.

Erectile Dysfunction or Impotence:

This is the inability of the male to achieve and maintain an erection that is sufficient to allow satisfactory sexual intercourse.

Premature Ejaculation (P.E):

This is the inability to control the ejaculatory reflex. This pathology may appear spontaneously or gradually, throughout the years. Delayed Ejaculation:

This pathology prevents ejaculation to take place due to an excessive control of the ejaculatory reflex.

Dispareunia:

Pain during the sexual intercourse or after it.

Anafrodisia, Loss of Libido:

This is an inhibition of the sexual desire, which may be temporal or persistent. A blockage of the sexual desire is produced, and sexual relations are considerably decreased, reaching in some extreme cases total eradication.

Female Sexual Dysfunctions: Sexual disorders suffered by females which result in unsatisfactory sexual relations.

Dispareunia:

Pain during sexual intercourse or after it. (Vaginitis, etc ).

Anorgasmia:

Blockage of the orgasmic component but not of the arousal component. This is a very common pathology.

Vaginism:

This is the inability to have sexual intercourse due to the involuntary contraction of the muscles of the inferior third of the vagina.

Inhibited Sexual Desire:

This is a general inhibition of the arousal factor. It manifests itself due to the loss of erotic stimulus. Women who suffer this pathology make an unconscious link between intercourse and punishment. This situation results in dissatisfaction and depression.

What should one do when suffering a sexual dysfunction? It is advisable that people who suffer any problem of this nature, do not feel ashamed about it and that they seek professional help immediately. The solution is simpler and faster when the problem first arises. The therapy is generally geared towards the couple, but one can also attend individually. All types of sexual dysfunctions, male and female, have appropriate treatment with an efficacy rate of 95%.
