On 17th and 18th March, Mariano Rosselló, M.D, attended the 2nd Greatwall International Andrology Forum in Nankin, China and presented 2 conferences about the treatment and diagnosis of Sexual Impotence. He also presented the Digital Inflection Rigidometer, and explained the advantages of diagnosing erectile dysfunction with this tool.

Mariano Rosselló, MD, attended the Third Biennial Conference of the Pan-Arab Society for Sexual Medicine (PASSM) which took place from 6-10 February in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Worldwide experts met to discuss Sexual Dysfunctions in men and women.
Dr. Rosselló presented two pieces of work about Male Sexual Dysfunctions titled “New selection criteria for surgical treatment of Peyronie’s Disease” and “Digitalised axial rigidometry in the study of erectile dysfunction. Comparison with the Rigiscan and Eco-Doppler”.
As the inventor of the Digital Inflection Rigidometer (DIR), an electronic tool that measures penile axial rigidity in grams, that is to say penetration capacity, Dr Rosselló demonstrated that this invention is currently the most useful tool to diagnose erectile dysfunction.

Mariano Rosselló, M.D, attended the IX European Society Congress for Sexual Medicine (ESSM) which took place from 4 to 6 December in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Rosselló's presentation, the title of which was the following : “Penile Implant prostheses: Results and long-time follow-up” aiming at explaining why and how penile prostheses are in many cases the only solution to cure erectile dysfunction.

Mariano Rosselló, MD attended 12th World Congress of the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) which took place from 17-21 September in Cairo, Egypt.
Worldwide experts in Men and Women Sexual Dysfunctions gathered together to discuss the latest advancements in this field of medicine and exchange their experience.
Dr Rosselló presented his piece of work: “Assessment of the axial rigidity of the penis in patients with ED following treatment with vardenofil. Results of a retrospective study based on clinical histories”.
As it is known, Dr Rosselló invented the Digital Inflection Rigidometre (DIR), an electromedicine tool which measures the axial rigidity of the penis in grams, that is to say the strength of penetration (More information on webpage: www.uroan.com).

It tends to show why men should see their andrologist when they start to experience some problems of erection. The article also deals with premature ejaculation and with women sexual dysfunctions. It stresses the fact that whatever the dysfunction, it is necessary to see a specialist, who will establish a diagnostic in order not to let the dissatisfaction take over the couple as it can lead to their separation.

Dr Rosselló intoduced in the Center of Urology, Andrology and Sexology the Woman's Unit in order to offer a complete treatment when it comes to urological pathologies (like for instance urinary incontinence) and sexual dysfunctions.
This new unit, managed by a team mainly formed by women doctors aims at offering the latest material for the diagnosis and the treatment of the aforementionned pathologies. Urinary incontinence, lack of sexual desire and anorgamia are pathologies we do know how to solve nowadays whenever is achieved a correct diagnosis.

Dr. Rosana Rodríguez attended the annual meeting of the International Society for the Study of Woman's Sexual Health (ISSWSH) in Lisboa. Among the important issues were the diagnosis and the treatment of the Feminine Sexual Dysfonction (FSD). The treatment of the FSD with Psycotherapy and hormonal treatment as well as the study of the possibilities of treatment for alterations in the women's libido, orgasm and in their excitation they are going through menopause and once they are past it. Dra. Cryosurgery and prostate laser vaporisation as well as a new technique for feminine incontinence were the three advancements presented by the centre of Urology, Andrology and Sexology of Baleares, headed by Doctor Rosselló. ¿Qué es la Criocirugía?
La criocirugía es una técnica nueva para el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata en aquellos casos en que esta opción terapéutica esté indicada. Es la primera vez que esta técnica se aplica en Baleares y consiste en la congelación selectiva del tejido prostático a – 50/70 º C con lo que se consigue la destrucción del tejido prostático y del tejido tumoral, respetando la temperatura de la uretra y del recto.
Actualmente, es la técnica menos invasiva y con menos efectos secundarios en el tratamiento del cáncer de próstata.

DR. ROSSELLÓ WAS INVITED BY THE PUIGVERT FOUNDATION TO A SURGICAL WORKSHOP ON PENILE IMPLANT TECHNIQUES

Dr. Rosselló was invited by the Puigvert Foundation to a surgical workshop on penile implant techniques. The event was organised by the Andrology Department together with the collaboration of American Medical Systems. Dr. Rosselló attended as expert surgeon in such techniques and he carried out two penile implants; one two piece device and one three piece device. He also gave a lecture about this type of surgery based on his ample experience in the field.

Recently, 10th issue of the Jano magazine, Dr. M. Rosselló Barbará has published the study: "Penile Prothesis in Spain for the last 25 years". The study consists of 3.422 cases of penile implants. Our Centre is pioneer since 1983 in this type of surgery. Only 10-15% of the patients who suffer Erectile Dysfunction choose the a penile prosthesis to solve their impotence problem. Although current medications have a high degree of efficacy, they fail in 15-20 % of the cases.
